GTX 780 6GB vs. GTX 970 4GB? What sould I buy?

GTX 780 6GB vs. GTX 970 4GB? What sould I buy?

The reason of my question is: I use a GTX 550TI and can not use the full of my computer power e.g. not in 3DCoat, not in Verve. So I think about a new GPU .... And I was sure, to buy a GTX 970 ... but I'm not longer sure

reason: there are often problem with COIL NOISE / COIL WHINING with the 970 ...

Maybe an older 780 GTX with 6GB are better?

PRO OF A 780
6GB VRAM / 970 did have only 4GB VRAM
384 BIT BUSWIDTH (good for 3DCoat)
The GTX 970 did have only 254 BIT BUS WIDTH
STABLE DRIVERS(?) because its older....

CONTRA OF A 780
GTX 780 will cost ca. 100€ more, 970 is cheaper
the 970 has more speed and less power consumption

My System: I have an 2600k from 2011, WIN 7 64 bit ....

What should I do? Whats good for VERVE and 3D Graphics? I'm not a gamer c:! ... and a professional card, ooohm, thats to expensive for me, so I need a good consumer card ....

Every halfway decent card nowadays is better than the best pro cards 4 years ago. Can't quite go wrong there! ;)
If power consumption is considerably different, it's a very valid matter to consider!

I think I will go fine with a 970 GTX ... if I will have COIL NOISES I will wait 1-2 days, because there are some cards and they did lost that noises after some hours - if not, I will use RMA-rights :ob

780's or 980's would be better - 2GB more VRAM and 384 bit BUS-WIDTH - but to expensive for me

ps. what about some spam protection for this forum? Everyone who did sign in should tell something about himself or some data ;)

Oh god, it's so hard... I mean, I added that silly "3" thing, but some people were even confused by that!
So... I dunno... I just keep an eye out on those russians, that slip through. What's the deal with the russians anyway?

I've got a rotating captcha solution activated, so that is already there as far as I know. The Cyrillic thing could be brilliant, hahaha, if I would know how to detect and prohibit those?! :geek:

Hey,

you wanna have a look here with new cycles GPU Benchmark:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?350975-The-new-Cycles-GPU-2-72-Benchmark/page6

This is a very fast growing comparison of all kinds of configurations.
Have a look at the 2x GTX 780 Ti OC in SLI.
Three minutes!
What a performance for less than 1000 Euro! (if you take the 3GB version http://www.pcwelt.de/produkte/Gigabyte-Geforce_GTX_780_Ti_OC-Grafikkarte-Test-8719759.html
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?350975-The-new-Cycles-GPU-2-72-Benchmark&p=2750220&viewfull=1#post2750220)
Power consuming will be a factor though ;)

I checked my GTX Titan with this benchmark yesterday, it was more than double slow, something like 6:30 for almost same money.
A single is even one minute faster than the Titan GTXs.

2x GTX 780 OC would be my choice now. Seems to be the new GTX580.
The SC is pretty expensive though.

So just my two cents, if you decide to spend some more.
As Taron said, watch out for power consumption.
But I am sure, for 3d coat & verve you'll be more than happy with the GTX 970.

BTW. I have a Quadro 4000 which ended in my Back Up System almost not used anymore. Professional is not faster, not necessarily better. Maybe more reliable? No reason to feel sad about not buying a professional one.
Not for the Low end professional cards.
If you go for those 2000-10000 Euro cards in a 24/7 config, and a broken system costs you a hell of money per hour, well maybe that's a different story.

Okay, thnx, so I will get in the next days/weeks a GTX 970, ASUS STRIX woul be fine, but I think its hard to get, maybe also a ZOTAC, GAINWARD or EVGA would be fine too (moderat clocked versions) - I wrote today to a little pc-shop in my near, its better to have someone in my near and not a company like amazon :ob

MSI & GIGABYTE would be fine too, but its to much overclocked I think :)
