Webtoon is having a short story contest with a top prize of 15k. https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/c ... ntest-2020 They lost me at a minimum of 30 panels per episode and 3 to 5 episodes for the complete story. I am geared for 1 illustration 1 vignette. It would still be fun to see someone from here win it. :ob

Oh dear, a comic strip like that is a lot of work. What those guys want to see is consistency, coherence and composition, creating a consumable narrative, so to say. I have little doubt that such effort is usually heavily underestimate like so many other things. Kudos to those, who will give it a go. I'd be thrilled, if someone dared try that with Verve, of course! :D :hyper:
But, yeah, a single vignette will not get you even past start, I'm afraid.

That’s for sure. I think Vignettes are more suited for a one page illustration anyway. Done correctly the illustration should show a side of the story not referenced in the writing in order to give it depth because it is such a short form. It has me wondering if Lord Dunsany ever tried that but of course he had no need to. People like Dunsany, Saki and O’Henry were true masters.

I do wish someone here would tackle this contest. It would be very cool to see Verve used And would actually bring Verve to the attention of quite possibly millions. There are only a handful of people here able to handle both the sequential art and the writing. You could do it., Olivier, Knacki and a few more. 15 k is a decent prize. I would love to try it but I am too far into what I am doing now. I am afraid if I take a detour the train will derail and I will never arrive at my destination.

So I tried…
I thought let's do that in "digital watercolor"... digital meaning "paper texture and low opacity color"...
Let's do manual lettering so I could use any drawing tool etc.
But in the end I did not use Verve :PP

Anyway this is about Tom's adventures ( after a Verve forum member? :hihi:, well pure coincidence ) here's a link with only 1 chapter for the moment https://www.webtoons.com/search?keyword=Ovn1

Awww, that's very cute. Pity you didn't do it with Verve... :( ...but well. I hope, you don't mind, if I ask what the problem was? Maybe it's something I can address?! :geek:
Anyway, great piece, great start! Very classic fairy tale. :ob

heh Tom sounds like an adventurous boy :D I love the intro to it and the impossibly tall tower! It definitely has an airy fairy tale feel to it. She is really handy with an axe lol Poor wolf! I think it is a solid start but I also would have loved watercolor style. As it is you are fine. It's a good easy style that can be done quickly and look great. The dialogue is fun but maybe needs a small edit in some areas , very small to keep the feel of the story. I think it is a solid start :ob c:!

Poor wolf indeed. That sort of tale must show a few victims  .
The nice axe cut has an explanation as the axe's owner was a warrior… it will be told somewhere... hum… me and the spoil…
I tried to keep it simple as it is mandatory for me and my scheduling.

To be fair I could have done that in Verve. I hesitated a lot with style etc.
With lettering also, so there was at some point in the process a lot of classic digital balloons, text, lasso usage, cut, paste, etc.
I was also afraid of potential issue with big image size, multiple layers, etc.
Lot of silly things that I was not completely confortable with Verve.
And then I stopped worrying about that and I just did it again with only 3 or 4 layers... as if using Verve but without Verve :?
I will do a few panels with Verve only and I will share them here :)

Looking forward to those Verve panels! :hyper:
Yeah, layers...I'll have to rethink this in Verve. In Vervette it's far more "common" and works beautifully. I still need to add transforms and lasso selection there, too.

Oliver you just chop off the poor wolf head, btw your "t" looks like an "r".
I just read this post, thanks Thomas for sharing, I'll give it a try, don't know which software to use though, don't know what story to tell either for that matter xD
Yes understand your problem with canvas size limits in Verve, specially if you are going to use layers.
Wish me luck.
