Re: EB Hoykeys & Navigation

I see, I guess all boils down to opinion/taste, but most of all software developer's philosophies, there should be lots of them, human beings are very subtle I guess,
My point of view is...

The natural way of painting (with trad media) have changed over time, from Altamira to Picasso, even only in Academicism, the media have changed, since the days when artists made oils by themselves mixing pigments n oil, passing through the 'ready to use' oiltubes (wich lead to impressionism), coming to these days where new oil binders (mediums.. really strange ones) are sold on amazon, and again this is only in OIL.

It reminds me of a famous phrase of Marshall McLuhan (his work is viewed as one of the cornerstones of the study of media theory.. television, radio, internet),
he said things like “We shape our tools and thereafter our tools shape us” (look at the impressionism example), or "the media is the message", trying to stress the importance of the media,
he explained that when Television just appeared, Television tried to resemble the previous media, Radio, then it found its own potential then it never tried to emule Radio again, and the pattern is repeated with all new media.

I've seen this cuz PS has its way to paint, AR has its own way too, leaving the options open in somecases, in other cases not, and having their own philosophies, in AR case is "providing powerfull tools with ease for the user, not cluttering the GUI" but in doing so it reduces a little bit the options, Verve has broader options (with the dials and the modifier paradigm), and I think perhaps Verve could leave even broader options, giving painters the capabilities to paint in various ways, cuz it's a media you are creating Taron, and this media shapes artwork.

Thanks Advanced.
PD: sorry some grammar mistakes I guess xD

Re: EB Hoykeys & Navigation

Oh, no worries about the grammar, but what's the deal with "Teron" always?! :? ...it's Taron, just like the website's domain and, eh, my name and so on... 8-)
It's almost sweet, but it always reminds me of Terror, you know, hehehe... forgive me for pointing that out:

So, yeah, I'm one of those weird pioneers, who contributed quite a bit to how 3d tools, especially 3d modeling, had developed. Though I was not inventing the "metanurbs", I was pushing its evolution back in the day, making almost exactly the same point: The tool can liberate and guide you!
And in quite significant quantity I loaded up Verve with exactly that philosophy. Except that it targets my natural tendencies of painting. I love just putting down color and blending it. By no means is it exactly where I want it to be, it still is crude, but it already suggests and supports this workflow quite well and invites a much more natural (to me) way of working with digital media. I will eventually focus more on dispersion again, not just for the spreading and absorption of paint onto and into the canvas, but actually how colors mix when you work them with your brush. Currently it depends fully on your actions and you have to vary certain parameters to get a soft blending "quickly", but it is my goal to make this truly feel natural and shall allow you to develop a very strong intuition so that you won't even have to think about any (feature related) technical aspect anymore as you blend your paints. It's ambitious, but I know it will be possible.

So, yeah, the soul of Verve is to create an intuitive and naturally relatable environment with the exploitation of our digital powers. Seems like most apps really work their way the other way around, which I think is far more complicated and often ends up falling somewhat short, because it has to make the wrong kind of compromises in my opinion. So, yeah, those apps exist and are readily available. Verve, eh...not so much. I really want to focus on making its world work, rather then making every world work inside of Verve, like I'd be taking on Adobe or so, hahaha... ...that may be a bit insane.

Thanks Zero
oh sorry,
I mistyped Taron, edited and noted. sorry again.
I see you got very strong concept of what Verve is and what it is not.
Have you ever consider make Verve open source? is it possible to create plugins for it? or a way someone could slightly modify the code?
Thanks advanced.

Re: EB Hoykeys & Navigation

No, I have not thought about going open source with it, because I may eventually make a pro-version, because eventually I need to earn money again. I promised to maintain a free version and may give a donation system a go to see, if I ever have to go commercial in the first place, but until then...nope.

Eventually having an API may be a nice thing. I could at the very least open up shader options, which could be fun, too. But I really want to see this through first.

Taron btw chrome didn't let me download the last version, I did it with win explorer, but now chrome doesn't even let me navigate through the galleries, it shows me the red screen asking to go back, why is that?

Pffff...because it now thinks there was malware on the forum, which, of course, is bogus. I've had that cleared up before already, took down the download link and thinks were fine for a short while. Firefox hasn't freaked out yet again, so... pffff... what to do.

Re: EB Hoykeys & Navigation

Have someone tested Verve on a NVIDIA SLI setting? could it then support bigger canvas resolution?
Thanks Advanced.

Re: EB Hoykeys & Navigation

Hello Eduardo, as you can see the size of the canvas still alive
Ok, I do not use SLI
I changed the card from 1060 to 1080, and the size limit remained
I wonder what equipment you are using and what is the biggest card you have been able to generate

Re: EB Hoykeys & Navigation

At the moment
Most often I use a canvas of sizes 3609x3513 or 3867x3511
On others paint dries vertically
