Re: dba's not dead !

Ho boy ! I not only forgive but I also encourage ! I wish my english was not so bad. It takes me sooooo much time to write every single sentence ... But, I'm very glad to read all these beautifull and deep thoughts (for what I understand :D )

The truth is, as far as i'm concerned, my art is dramatically handicapped by my tendency to self-judgment. So as much as possible, I try to keep away from censorship issues and responsibility thoughts. And of course, I fail, mostly :PP

it reminds me of a conversation with a shrink friend of mine, a woman who teached me not to feel guilty about porn pictures I draw for a magazine, years ago. Decades after doing them (with real pleasure, I confess) I was very embarassed about the sexism and macho vision that these drawings expressed  . It was a very good experience to learn anatomy  but, even if I managed to introduce some funny things, most of them where sad "clichés" of women as sextoys for men ...
The lady I was talking with told me something very important, I believe. She told me that the problem was not that men had fantasies about women and represented them with not very respectfull pictures. The problem was that ther was no room for women fantasies. Thoses pics where made by men for men. Done by women, it would have been quite different and interesting. Things changed a bit since then, women have a little taken possession of the land, thankfully. Not enough, however. But the message was something like : dont censor yourself and you will understand why you shouldn't censor anybody else. You can have fun with some visions as long as it's not a tool of domination but just a fantasie. If your representation of women make them unable to see themselves in another way, now that's a problem ! And the better way to fix this issue is not to ban your drawings but to let women supplement them by their own creations. So, yeah, in a way censorship is never the solution.

Re: dba's not dead !

I perfectly agree with the last snipped there: censorship is never the solution.
The problem is the elevation of certain desires over other more useful or even relevant ones. Energy needs transformation and not suppression, which otherwise almost inevitably leads to an explosion. In case of our mind a transformation finds guidance through inspiration and encouragement to reach greater clarity. On top of that, censorship never leads to clarity of the censored or their audience.
But, again, this can send the wrong message to those less enlightened folks, who believe that this is the "free for all" on any and all hideous inclinations. That's not the point! The same problem we find with the "Do what thou wilt! That shall be the whole of the law!" thing. People only know what they want based on their present circumstances, which have led to great deformations to their creative spectrum. Take away their hope to fulfill any higher aspirations, whether it be intellectual or skill based, and they seek satisfaction in lower forms of stimulation down until nothing is left but purely animalistic desires, which include anything that justifies reactive behavior such as rage or euphoria of any kind, besides sexual matters.
So...freedom and guidance with open information could be a good way. Just that the order of education would have to cater to greater overall clarity before focusing on skills to dominate each other in any way.
You'll never get your thread back, dba! ;)

Just a speed (about an hour) doodle I just made, trying to be more spontaneous, not knowing where it goes, etc ... Not really my specialty but quite a fun. And its 100% Verve !

Re: dba's not dead !

I think that's fantastic! I know, this may sound a little weird, but I can totally see a giant spider sitting across her, telling a story, while weaving three or four cocoons herself, giving the girl some pointers on the side about how to do it better, but mostly just gossiping or telling stories. Could be funny, if there were countless baby spiders playing around in the background and all around them.

Anyway...her face is most outstanding, really. I love how alive and curious she looks and even at that coarseness there's beauty. Great job! :ob

Hum ... Thanks Taron. I wish I could see the giant spider too but ... I guess I'll need some of that amazing drug you took ! 8-)
Well, that's the benefit of this kind of art, offering freedom to the viewers. I make this things to learn how to be less obsessed by details and hold off my perfectionism that has nothing to do with creating, but is only a desire to control everything. The kind of exercise very uncomfortable for me. So if it opens doors that I did not glimpsed, I guess it's very positive. :)

Oh, no, I mean... I can "imagine" how cool it would be to have a giant spider sit across her...yadda yadda... not like my mental pattern recognition is going berserk with amazing visions of sorts, haha! It just looks to me as if the girl holds a cocoon in her hand, weaving around it casually while listening with some amazement to what the "giant spider" is talking about while showing some more technique...eh...ok...I do see the potential drug issue, too, yes... haha  ...but no, it's just my natural high! 8-)
Anyway...fairytale, you know. It does look like she's sitting in some kind of cave or tunnel, too.

I used to do a lot of these exercises...in fact...eh...damn near everything I do is this sort of exercise, hahaha, so... do more! :D
