Re: EB Verve Painter

Hey Ed :)

There Is a way to break down her visual story. Do a classical Triptych set to today's times. Triptychs were handled in many different ways from story progression to family and official presentation. The breakdown of her story is logical. The first painting would be the Parting of her and maybe friends and family but certainly her departure from Venezuela. Maybe on the bridge. The second painting would be the Journey which would detail a scene in her struggle to reach Peru. In the first two paintings she needs the company of other people. The first her family, the second her fellow refugees and the third would end in a painting just exactly as you have her here. There are people in it also but she is distanced now and thinking on her future. Surrounded by people yet isolated is how I think of her looking at the drawing. Another thing I like about the drawing itself is she looks like a real person. Not some idealized male fantasy. Mind you I like the occasional idealized man fantasy  Just not in something as serious and as powerful as this. Beginning, Middle and Conclusion (Arrival). I have done a digital fantasy triptych before. I hope if you go that route that your's turns out better lol.

@Frenchy Thank goodness! That's Good news for a change. That means he still has the net :bounce: I just hope things keep stable for his family and his health stays good.

Re: EB Verve Painter

That's a nice sketch, Ed! The latest version of Verve doesn't work for you at all? Well...I guess, I'll have to revisit what I'm doing then.
Anyway, congrats on the move and keep doing those studies! I think they're great! In the meantime, I'll try to find time to make a new version that hopefully gets everyone to paint again! c:!

Re: EB Verve Painter

Hi Taron,
Actually I painted the Samurai using the last version of Verve, and though I do remember feeling the "fluid smudge" different from previous versions, I kinda workaround it. Also I was coming from a long time without using Verve, I forgot a lot of things, so even if I had used the previous version for that painting I would have climbed out a learning curve again anyway.
So I'm not quite sure yet which version fluids I prefer, or if I find both interesting and interchangeable.
The reason why I chose the previous version for this sketch is that I found that the previous version can handle max resolution canvases with less lag that the last version.
So in the end it's a hardware limitation, but sooner than latter the new Nvidia RTX will be common, so I guess in order to extract all the juice from that card making Verve 64bit is critical.
Please give us the great news that you have started writing that Verve 64 bit code. :o :bounce:   c:! 8-)

@Thomas
it comes to my mind the graphic novels of Milo Manara, or perhaps I should take a more real or crude way to capture it.

Re: EB Verve Painter

If I figure out how to rewrite the tablet api for 64 bit, then I can immediately compile a version, but I yet have to get there. I'm still torn regarding starting from scratch in C++ rather than keep pushing BlitzMax. And right now I have to survive above all... but we shall!

@ Ed However you decide to do it I am very interested. Some of the greatest storytellers ever born were artists :)

Re: EB Verve Painter

WinTab off would set it into mouse mode, which behaves exactly as you describe! That part seems totally fine. But the pressure picking up later, when wintab is on, that's weird. First time I hear that. I should hook up my tablet on win10 and see, if I can confirm that and possibly track it down?! Have you installed all the latest drivers? But this is probably a conversation for the community thread!

I understand, so if the C++ is a long term goal. Would you write in BlitzMax the tiled canvas version of Verve that I suggested time ago?
I mean imagine the Verve canvas is composed of 3 different tiles one on top of the other, which can be painted just one at a time, and there is a way to switch between them or even select their junctures, that way the canvas res could be 3 times larger. Do you think that could be possible? is it the only short term option to increase the max canvas resolution?

Thanks Advanced.

Re: EB Verve Painter

I'm hesitant regarding the tiles, but I may give it a try at some point. It's not as "trivial" as you may think!
By the way, were you affected by the big power outage?

Re: EB Verve Painter

No, not affected by power outage
But the public health system is over saturated, it was already difficult to get a medical appointment or recipe or treatment before the immigration, I personally spent last year in hospitals processing documents for a very close relative.
Yes I couldn't imagine how hard it could be to churn out the tiled canvas version of Verve, though I just guessed it could be easier than rewriting all Verve in C++, is there a kinda short term option for increasing the canvas max resolution?
