My take on... Sketch #000004 - "The Tree of Life"...

Re: dines sketch book

Very nice, D! Again I get a mildly morbid feeling, which is becoming a pattern of sorts. Depending on how fast you're going with what kind of car and at what time of day, this could very well be a Tree of Death instead, haha... OUCH
Aside from that: Beautifully rendered bark and nice canopy as well as an overall nice sense of three-dimensionality to it all.
VERY COOL! 8-) :ob

Latest addition to my sketch book ... it started as exploration for brush behavior, strokes and material then it went on...

Re: dines sketch book

I like both your tree and your experiment Dines. Experiments are always good I think because they lead to better things and techniques. Noting effects and using them down the road. hehe the tree reminds me of some turnarounds I have seen in my area :D

Re: dines sketch book

I am a little early but since it's about that time ... I start with an image for Helloween and this would also make a perfect topic for a challange (*hint*)...

Ah, fer christ... I really am so totally neglecting the beautiful challenge threads! I wished my web-angles would still be around to keep that going, but I guess it's still all on me, too. I could either write Verve or host happy challenges, hmmm....

NICE ONE, by the way! :ob :D

Re: dines sketch book

Whow  cannot believe that it is almost a whole year since I posted the last sketch! c:!

Close to this years Halloween... I gave it another try on that Topic without realizing that this was actually the last topic where I posted something  .
Just resized and little compression in PS.

I have a hard time with the fine details! kind of coarse style at the moment but ... working on smooth gradients and shadowing and crisps edges. Definitely need to improve here. Any tips and tricks as well as brush settings are greatly appreciated.

so happy 'early' Halloween.

Re: dines sketch book

WAHHH, Dines! Welcome Back!
And again with- what may become a tradition- another Halloween tribute!
Great job! :ob
Not to mention that it really looks like you've done some painting in the meantime. You have some very nice lighting/shading in there! c:!

TIPS:
- control the "fluid smudge" amount consciously! High values for softer blending.
- consider using Average instead of Smudge for some really, really soft stuff, ideally with Brush#1! Could look photoshoppy, though.
- when blending, turn off size based on pressure and only turn on opacity based on pressure!

Other than that...relax and go at it calmly. Speed will come with greater- and real- confidence! 8-)
