Thanks a ton!
That's it. Sorry didn't expect a difference between mouse wheel and keyboard.
Sure there is a numeric pad.... 8-)

Re: Suggestions

it'd be nice to have a pixelated way of painting. So it looks like sprite art.

Re: Suggestions

Despite the easy thought that something like that would be stunningly out of place within Verve, I do feel the same way!

Re: Fluids

Hi Taron
I have created some images that I LOVE in a particular version …in this case 99u_15 and have found that it is difficult to reproduce the subtle behaviour of the fluids in later versions. The fluids seem to be especially "creamy" in 99u_15 so I continue to us it for this particular effect. See attachment.
I know you have been tweaking the behaviour all along and sometimes its quite dramatic.
Im wondering if you will allow some control over this aspect of the fluid behaviour in the upcoming Verve so that I might be able achieve a similar effect from previous version settings?
Thanks kindly
Hope all is going well!

Re: Suggestions

Ugh, I'm not sure, if you have yet tried to deactivate the canvas texture? Seems like it could be one reason. On the other hand, things that change in the fluids are always somewhat dramatic in the result, thus it can't really ever be exactly the same as before. Also the factors that feature into the behavior have gained more control, which means that amount of paint build-up can be changed more dynamically than before, but should possibly ....uhm.... yeah, there's one big change: As the paint moves, it spreads thinner! This changes the fluids a lot. I was thinking about hooking a parameter to it, but it gets really, really complicated for artists with all the parameters. It also adds processing time, of course, when a value is being replaced by a controlled parameter. I'll have to look into that. :geek:

However, I'd most recommend to befriend yourself with all the new possibilities and see, if you can find pleasing settings not by looking backwards to what used to happen, but by examining what can happen now, because it's actually a whole lot more! Especially once you start playing with the canvas texture and custom texture based on a layer's paint! c:!

Words to live by…...
Only You dear Taron, could say something so profound and moving, while talking about software parameters !
If only i could convey how relevant this statement is at this point in my life…..fluids aside :)

regardless…..
yes I am using the canvas with the paper setting because it adds something really sweet to the way the paint crawls as in the detail below….its subtle.
No I am not hung up on the past….at least not when it comes to Verve.
and Yes I am very much looking forward to the newest incarnation of Verve and all the possibilities it may bring.
Although I have to admit the wait is killing me….patience grasshopper :)
For the record…even as it stands now…
Verve has rocked my world….and blows away all expectations.
Once again…..
Thank You Taron
:)

Argh, I know, I'm sorry I keep everyone waiting for so long. I will pick up speed again.
And thank you, Stavros, you give me a great deal of energy! :)

16 bit import

Hi Taron
Since Im maxed out at about 2500x1500 pixels and want to print large, Ive been thinking about how I might ad more detail to my images and stay in the 16 bit colour space.

I was hoping maybe I could upres in photoshop to maybe 5000x3000 and reimport smaller sections of the painting to work on and ad detail one section at a time
But I need to maintain the integrity of the 16 bit image and its beautiful gradients.
Any thoughts on this?.

As far as I know you still can't re-import a 16 bit image correct?
So what happens when I reimport something back into Verve.
Does it go in at 8 bit and get converted to 16bit once inside Verve ?
And then what happens when I re export that section…its 16 bit?

Sorry for any confusion
Thanks kindly

Re: Suggestions

Hey Stavros, yeah, it still doesn't have a 16bit import, which is really rough. May I carefully ask why you need such high print resolutions?
One thing I could try for a future version is to offer highres modes in which it automatically tiles, but it will either switch off fluids altogether or do some sort of careful compromise. I could imagine a few potential approaches to that.
However, to focus my development on that right now would really be odd, because above all it's a painter, you know, to explore one's own creativity, not so much a free workhorse for billboard designs, if you know what I mean. I'm ready to claim that the majority of artists want to view and even present their images on a monitor, some may want texture designs for their 3d models, but both these categories could get away with resolutions around or less than 3k. The first group may be quite happy with common monitor resolutions up to 2.6k (like mine).
That's not to say that I plan on ignoring super high resolutions, but I just can't favor such efforts before I have the new basics addressed, you know.
