Roatation / pen direction (?)

I'm not sure how to ask this but I'll try...

In the image on the HUD where it shows what the bristles will look like, there is a white line. It used to be that when I would go to brush "5", that line seemed to move with my stylus direction (although it also seemed rather random). At one point, in one of my paintings, I must have hit something because ALL of the brushes started acting that way. Now, none of them are (including brush 5). And at one point, while changing my bias, I seemed to change the direction/rotation white-line-thing, but it still stayed static.

Is all that normal? How can I set it to work with my stylus direction? How do I set the direction to something else? (I don't see anything about it in the info post... unless I missed it)

Re: Roatation / pen direction (?)

Looks like the white line only changes direction when I'm using my trackpad on my laptop, not when I'm using my Wacom.

Also, brush 5 if back to rotating (although the white line stays the same), after a reboot of the program (it wasn't rotating at all before).

Re: Roatation / pen direction (?)

Argh, in the released version all this stuff was quite weak, but there's a "pen mode" button (toggle), which- when off- would allow the pen to have the brushes act like the mouse would make them act. With mouse your stroke direction dictates the rotation of the brush, as well as the speed of your motion would control size and/or opacity, if those toggles were on. If you are using the pen, make sure that toggle is active, so it responds to the pen correctly!
In the new version all of this is MUCH nicer and very clear and controllable. That's yet another reminder that I should've released an in between version.

But, yeah, check if your pen mode is on or off. All those toggles (pressure sensitive size, opacity and pen mode) are in the brush interface next to the Size and Min Size dials.

And it's yet another reminder of just how gigantic a leap it's going to be to the next version! :| :)

Re: Roatation / pen direction (?)

I can't seem to find it! =(

The only toggles I find in that area are size, opacity and pressure.

Re: Roatation / pen direction (?)

Hm, it's definitely turned on [pen mode]. See that green light in the lower right corner there? That's the pen mode toggle.
I do have some wild hotkey things, too, though... I think it was [a] and [ctrl]+[a] and so on... something with [a], hahaha... it's been a while and I've done so much to it already.
AH YES, I had [a] toggle fixed rotation and free rotation.
Holding [shift]+[a] was to set the rotation then.

But a restart should most certainly reset everything to how it normally works!
Don't know if something might've changed on your machine in the meantime?!?

Re: Roatation / pen direction (?)

Thank you so much, Mary, (and taron for sure)
I was searching for this from the very beginning and never thought it's already implemented.
Manual says nothing about:

"a] toggle fixed rotation and free rotation.
Holding [shift]+[a] was to set the rotation"

Yippieh.... no more fight with pen rotation when using brush #8!!
Such an important hotkey.

Oh, I...ah..yeah...I think, it was one of those spare of the moment thingies before I approached the new version, you know... something that wasn't fully thought through at the time. Now it's pretty wicked. I mean... all of it, haha. Eh...ok, ok, ok, ok, I should shut up for sure! :?

But... on mine it says that that one is "pressure", not "pen mode" - is that the same?

YES!! This worked! Thank you!!

Re: Roatation / pen direction (?)

OH, funny, I've done so many things already since the last version, it's sometimes tough to tell the development stuff from the actual old release. Things will get so much better! :)

Sweet, I'm glad you've got it under control again! :bounce:

Re: Roatation / pen direction (?)

Well... ok. It seems as tho I have limited control.

When I use my mouse, I'll click, and the brush will change rotation (including the white line). Then, as I change direction (still clicking) the brush will change direction too. (this is the way I see things working on your tutorial)

When I use my pen & tablet, however, I'll put my pen down to paint, and it'll change rotation (but not the white line). Then, as I change direction, the brush does not change directions until I lift off, and make another individual stroke.

Does that make sense :?:
