W.I.P.

I decided a few months ago that if I was going to progress as a 2d artist I needed to get back to pencil and paper. I have done a number of very rough sketches which I have been taking into sketchpad to refine. All I can say is that its a lot easier to smudge digitally than it is with a tissue paper or some such in real life.

I did the original on a sketch pad with Really horrible paper. Even light erasing tore it. I use a scratch style to crudely get forms and ideas and then refine it. Its hard to do with poor paper. On this page I was just doodling til inspiration hit me and I was in a bad place to get inspired on the paper lol. I still have a lot of elements to add but after that the next stop for this piece will be Verve :)

The second image will also be verved but I need to think about what I will be replacing the reference image with. I was rooting around some old papers of mine and found it. I did it when I was 13 years old and yes I had a reference. Who needs models? I had Playboy! Courtesy of my big brother lol. Also a wip. and being a work in progress (45 years and counting :D )... any suggestions? I was thinking something tropical.

Re: Extrapolations

Cool. Playboy is not too bad....was not too bad ;)
Last girl really reminds me of Paul Gaugin Tahitian girls:

What do you think?

Maybe you want to check guys eyes level? Warp tool makes it extraordinary easy. Maybe not. Overall style is very convincing.

Keep it coming tartan. I am really excited how they turn out after those few years :)

Re: Extrapolations

heh Thx for the heads up on the man. I knew something looked strange :D I am going to be very ambitious. The man is just a part of the overall image I have in mind and I think ready to paint.

On the girl. Gaugin was such a brilliant painter. I really wonder if I can give it that Tahiti twist but I am no Gaugin. I think its a good direction for her.

I am definitely going to keep refining new and old scratch pictures. Its great practice and they will give me a good base to paint in Verve.
