Re: Pulse's explorations

VERY COOL Pulse!!!! The idol looks so nice now and fits the rest of the picture very well  ... Sure was a good call to rework the painting a bit more after all! :D
i am somewhat sad that this little fella receives all your undivided attention, though :? ... Maybe, come and have a few quick minutes of fun divagation with us in the daily sketch threads? ;)

Oh man, Dave, this has become fantastic!!! I totally dig it! The darkening of the leaves is perfect! It brings out the beautiful rendering of the rest of them, which previously has gone nearly unnoticed by me, to be honest. This is fantastic! I'd call it a wrap already, but I wouldn't want to stop you, of course! :D
It may be a little weird, that the leaves in the top left background feel like they're out of focus and behind the Iguana's head, including their size, while they obviously mean to be in front of him. Claim that it is surrealism ala Matisse and you can call it done, hehe! 8-)

To jump on the daily sketches and do a few fast sketches might be a great exercise for you, too, of course! Thanks, jim, for teaching me a new word: divagation! Nice! :D
Here to help! :D

Re: Pulse's explorations

I wonder if it's the jawline or the green in the background, but I get this Captain Kirk feeling for some reason, hahaha! ... GREAT START, who ever it will become! 8-)

Re: Pulse's explorations

Uh, that's kinda bizarre, haha. Has some neat things going on there. I'd be careful about a few things. I would rather avoid the painted on hairline and have the metal be "clean" until it's edge so that it looks more authentic. Or have the metal piece's edge as a hairline. Graphic elements such as the tiara thingy should be in proper perspective to hold it all together. Currently it looks a bit bent and all over the place, actually flattening the image. So...watch the perspective, also you might want to consider the relationship of sizes for the details, so that something ties them together visually.
What works quite well is how much attention the eyes draw to themselves. But they compete very aggressively with the super high contrast cheek thingy.
Ah...so much to consider. Well, just take one thing at a time and this is gonna get bitchin'! ;)
