Re: Lord Insectord gives suggestions

Hey, I just got an "exception access violation" windows message when saving + plus crash... happened before with a very big file and I thought it was a memory thing, so forgot about painting on big sizes.
But now it happened on a 1280x720 with 13 layers, tried to reproduce it again with more layers and nothing... any idea what might cause this and how to avoid it?

Re: Lord Insectord gives suggestions

Ffffuuuuu....shhiii... ok, I should probably be a bit more mature about this, but it's strange and rare and hard to reproduce for me, too. I've had that happen months ago once, once! I'm so sorry. It should have nothing to do with the size. In fact, it's hard to tell what on earth this could be related to. I'm already doing a "Try and Catch" on layer actions (for my debugging, just to clarify) and it must be related to the layers, but ...eh... man, I'm so sorry. You were saving a project, though, right? Not like a png or jpeg.
You know, I'll hook up some sort of logging, if I manage. That ought to help. I'm still super-bummed, man.
And I was just going to tell you that I've uploaded version v0.99m with your suggestion for Build-Up hooked up, even the Shift+B to toggle between values. Except I have it so that you can adjust both values.
It now also saves Grid settings and Brush settings and a brand new "DRP Gamma", which is a wacky color treatment drpetter came up with a few days ago and it works beautifully here, too.

Ah crap...anyway, expect another update a little later today!

Re: Lord Insectord gives suggestions

Yep, I was saving a project.

Build-up hotkey is awesome, thanks!
Saving grid settings is also very useful!

Another tiny usability issue: when in transform mode, it would be good to be able to zoom and pan around, right now is only possible to pan with mmb, I messed up plenty of times thinking I would be able to move around moving the layer around instead.
Also, it could be handy to add a new behaviour to that hotkey: if user holds it (more than it takes to push and release) it could accept and exit transform on release. Although in this case it would probably be better to be just "V".

Re: Lord Insectord gives suggestions

Oh, yeah, transform really needs to get worked out for sure! I'll probably put something like handles around the layer to make more clear that you're in transform. Yeah, that's clever anyway, then I can keep the hotkeys for pan and zoom just as they are normally.
Ok, I'll deal with that later for sure!

Glad you like the rest! :D

Do you vaguely remember what you had done before saving, when it crashed? I know, it's a tough question, but maybe you do remember...could be useful! :?

Re: Lord Insectord gives suggestions

I was just painting on a recently created new layer, fluidity and build up was set to 0 I think, and that's all I remember.

Re: Lord Insectord gives suggestions

Another option to separate zoom+pan, would be to not require LMB, so ctrl+alt+drag zooms directly, then LMB is free to transform right?
And/Or take advance of the MMB, adding CTRL to zoom too.

Re: Lord Insectord gives suggestions

Uh, that already is the case, Zafio! Use the middle mouse button and the mouse wheel! ;)

No mouse wheel on the stylus :)

Just got the Access Violation again, and it wasn't a new layer... seems totally random!

Re: Lord Insectord gives suggestions

Oh, my wacom intuos 3 has these ribbons that are hooked to the mousewheel by default. That works quite well.
Damned, what is that now? Do you remember where you were with the mouse when it happened? Where you hovering over the layers at the time? Because that one I've had, too, before, also so rare that it can't be reproduced. But if it happened totally at random, then that's utterly weird?! That never ever happened to me.
